A quiet stretch of road in Chambers County turned into a disaster zone Friday night when a crash near FM 563 and Bay Lane left multiple people dead, according to county officials.
Emergency crews shut down the area and stayed on scene through the night, working to clear wreckage and document evidence for investigators.
"We ask that you please pray for the family and friends of the victims of this tragic crash," Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said, according to FOX 26 Houston. He also warned drivers to expect closures around FM 563 and Bay Lane until about midnight while first responders and investigators handled the scene.
Investigation Underway
The Texas Department of Public Safety has taken the lead on the investigation. Authorities say the victims have not yet been identified, and officials have not released any details about the vehicles involved, per FOX 26 Houston.
Sheriff Hawthorne added that, based on preliminary information, it appeared none of the victims or the registered vehicle were from Chambers County.
