Gladeview is at the center of a disturbing child abuse case after Miami police arrested a 32-year-old woman whose 12-year-old son told school officials she had repeatedly beaten him and threatened to kill him, authorities say. Police reported the boy had swelling and small lacerations near his left eye and a cut on his right palm.
Allegations in the police complaint
According to the arrest affidavit, the boy said the episode began while they were driving to Gwen Cherry Park and he interrupted a phone call his mother was having with a man he believed she was cheating with. The complaint states that Lucianny Lizbeth Luna slapped him, pulled his hair and struck the back of his head about 18 to 19 times with a small glass bottle, then tried to slash him with her keys, causing a small laceration on his right palm, according to Law&Crime.
At home and the school report
After they arrived home, the boy told his stepfather what had happened and was then struck again, investigators say. He ran to his room and used Instagram video to call a relative and show his injuries. From outside the door, his mother allegedly yelled “I want to kill you” and “You’re not my son” and threatened to kill him “with anything I have.” The aunt later corroborated the child’s account, as reported by CBS Miami.
Arrest and court status
Miami police arrested Luna and booked her on a single count of child abuse resulting in no harm, local outlets reported. She was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center pending further court action, as reported by Fox San Antonio.
What the charge carries
Under Florida law, child abuse without great bodily harm is typically charged as a third-degree felony that can carry up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000, according to the Florida Legislature statute on abuse, aggravated abuse and neglect of a child. The case could also prompt involvement from the Department of Children and Families and parallel dependency proceedings that commonly accompany criminal child abuse investigations.
Court records do not yet show any scheduled hearings, and Law&Crime reports that Luna posted a $5,000 bond on Friday. Authorities have not released further public comment on the case.
