
A Granite Falls neighborhood is reeling after a house fire on Spring Valley Place in southern Caldwell County left one person dead on Friday, according to officials. Fire crews knocked down the flames, but the scene stayed busy for hours as investigators moved in to piece together what went wrong inside the home.
Firefighters and emergency responders discovered the victim inside the residence after the fire was extinguished, WCNC reported. The victim’s identity has not been released, and investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.
Investigation underway
The Caldwell County Fire Marshal’s Office usually takes the lead on figuring out the origin and cause in fatal structure fires and helps guide residents through what comes next. As outlined by the Caldwell County Fire Marshal’s Office, the county provides an "After the Fire" information guide along with a point of contact for families affected by serious fires.
