Gunfire shattered the quiet of a Brooklyn Park neighborhood on Saturday night, sending people running, a car speeding off, and a bullet into a nearby house, according to police. Officers later found the street littered with shell casings, but no one was reported hurt.
Officers were dispatched to the 7400 block of Unity Ave N, where they found numerous casings scattered across the roadway, the department said. Two adults were seen running from the area, and a vehicle was spotted leaving. A residence on the 7300 block of Unity Lane was struck by at least one round, and police reported no injuries. Hennepin County Crime Lab deputies helped process the scene, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
Investigators combing for evidence
Brooklyn Park maintains a public shots-fired dashboard that helps the department track incidents and spot trends, according to Brooklyn Park Police Open Data. Hennepin County's Forensic Science Lab provides crime scene processing support for suburban agencies, per the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and was listed as assisting officers at this call.
Detectives are expected to review the recovered shell casings and any available video to help pin down who opened fire and why. For now, the street is quiet again, but the evidence is doing the talking.
Part of a troubling local pattern
The shooting comes amid a run of serious gun violence in the area, including a deadly apartment shooting in January that required Hennepin County investigators, as reported by FOX 9. Community groups and police have repeatedly urged residents to share video, tips or anything unusual they notice to help detectives solve these cases.
What residents should know
Authorities say the investigation into Saturday's shooting remains active and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or captured it on video to contact Brooklyn Park police. No arrests have been announced as the probe continues.
