Schrock Road turned into a crime scene Tuesday night as Columbus officers swarmed the 1900 block following a police-involved shooting, snarling traffic and drawing neighbors out of their homes. Witnesses described a wall of flashing lights and cruisers clogging the roadway while sections of the street were shut down and drivers tried to find a way around the chaos. By late Tuesday, officials were saying very little about exactly what had happened.
According to WSYX, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 9 President Brian Steel confirmed that officers were involved in the incident but declined to release further details. The station’s report, posted at 10:44 p.m., includes a small set of photos showing marked cruisers lined up along Schrock and officers working behind the tape as the scene remained locked down.
Official response
As of late Tuesday, the Columbus Division of Police had not released a full public statement on the shooting. Its press release hub for the Columbus Division of Police showed other recent media notices but nothing offering additional context about what unfolded along Schrock Road. For prior critical incidents, the division has later posted follow-up releases and media updates on that same page. We have contacted CPD’s public information office for comment.
How the review is handled
In Ohio, officer-involved critical incidents are often investigated by the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation when local departments request outside help. On the Attorney General’s site, BCI outlines its investigative and forensic support role in cases like officer-involved shootings. Whether Columbus police or local prosecutors will call BCI in on this case has not yet been announced.
Neighbors and traffic impact
Neighbors reported seeing a large number of police vehicles and lane closures near the bridge over Alum Creek, with traffic backing up as officers secured the area. Some drivers found themselves stuck in delays while investigators worked the scene. The photo gallery in the WSYX report shows officers and cruisers stretched along Schrock Road as the investigation unfolded. This story will be updated when Columbus police or other agencies release more detailed information.
