A Tuesday evening in Truxton Circle turned violent when gunfire erupted in the courtyard of an apartment building, injuring two men and a 5-year-old boy. Police were called to the 400 block of N Street NW at about 7:10 p.m. and quickly sealed off the area while investigators searched for suspects.
Officers found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds in the building's courtyard. Both were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening. A parent drove the 5-year-old boy to a hospital, where he was also treated for non-life-threatening wounds, according to WTOP.
Police search for suspects
Interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffery Carroll told reporters at the scene that investigators believe the attack "seems to have been random" and said officers are looking for two people last seen wearing dark clothing who fled on foot. "This is completely unacceptable," Carroll said, adding that MPD's Crime Suppression Team and task forces have stepped up patrols in the area, as reported by WTOP.
Block has a history of shootings
For some Truxton Circle residents, the scene is a grim repeat. The 400 block of N Street has seen serious incidents before, including a fatal shooting in January 2025, according to public releases from the Metropolitan Police Department.
