
A late-night drive on Chicago's Far South Side turned into a close-range shooting early Friday when a 39-year-old man was shot in the mouth while sitting in his car on South Halsted Street, authorities said.
Police said someone in a gray Nissan pulled up in the 9900 block of South Halsted Street, got out, and opened fire on the driver, hitting him in the mouth. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition, and no other injuries were reported, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
Officers responding to a report of a person shot around 1:36 a.m. in the 22nd District found the wounded man inside his vehicle, police said. The shooter took off after the attack, and no arrests had been announced as of the initial report. Area Two detectives are investigating.
Investigation Under Way
Chicago police detectives from Area Two are working to piece together what led up to the shooting on South Halsted. As in many gun cases, investigators are expected to review any surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses and follow up on tips.

Another Recent Shooting Nearby
The attack comes during a stretch of shootings on the Far South Side this month. Two days earlier, a 49-year-old man was killed after being shot and then crashing on the 8800 block of South Paxton Avenue, according to reporting on a Far South Side crash that ended in a deadly Paxton Avenue shooting.
Area Two detectives have asked anyone with information about Friday's shooting on South Halsted to come forward. Further details on the attack were not immediately available from police.
