A 35-year-old Hialeah woman is behind bars without bond after police say she forced her way into a Northwest Miami-Dade home and attacked a 68-year-old resident, yanking the older woman by the hair through a bedroom window. The incident happened March 29, and the suspect is set to face a judge this week.
According to an arrest report, Vanessa Caridad-Rodriguez showed up uninvited at a residence on Northwest 84th Passage and began causing a disturbance that pushed the victim into a bedroom. Investigators say Caridad-Rodriguez slid open a window, reached inside, grabbed the woman by the hair and violently shook her head before running off. She was later arrested in Hialeah and is being held without bond ahead of an April 22 court appearance, according to WSVN.
Caridad-Rodriguez’s name has surfaced in other local police paperwork this year. As reported by Local 10, she was identified during a February package-theft investigation after license-plate footage and a traffic stop tied her to a vehicle that investigators were watching. That earlier case has not been publicly linked to the March incident, and detectives say the investigation is still active.
Charges And Legal Penalties
Caridad-Rodriguez was booked on charges that include burglary with assault or battery and battery on a person 65 or older. Under Florida law, battery on someone 65 or older is treated as an enhanced offense that can be filed as a felony, and burglary with an assault or battery can be elevated depending on the circumstances.
Florida’s criminal punishment code assigns different severity levels to felony offenses, and a third-degree felony can carry a prison term of up to five years, according to FindLaw.
What Happens Next
Caridad-Rodriguez is expected in Miami-Dade court on April 22, when prosecutors will decide whether to formally file the charges and pursue any sentence enhancements tied to the alleged victim’s age. Investigators have not released a possible motive, and the arrest report did not spell out the victim’s medical condition following the attack.
