A roadside argument turned violent Saturday on Highway 29 in Madison County, where one person was shot during what deputies are calling a road-rage incident. The wounded person was taken to a nearby hospital, and others involved stayed behind to talk with investigators. Deputies said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Madison County deputies said the gunfire broke out on Highway 29 at Kimberly Circle, according to a post on the Madison County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now assisting with the case. Authorities have not released a motive and have not said whether anyone has been arrested or charged.
A broader pattern in metro Atlanta
The Madison County shooting lands in the middle of a troubling run of road-rage violence across metro Atlanta this winter. On Jan. 29, a separate road-rage shooting on I-285 shut down lanes and sent a driver to the hospital, according to WSB-TV. The string of incidents highlights how fast tempers on the roadway can escalate into gunfire and put bystanders at risk.
What investigators say now
Deputies said everyone involved in the Madison County shooting stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and again stressed there is no further threat to the community, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Officials have declined to share more about the victim’s condition or provide any suspect description while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to assist.
