Sunday afternoon turned deadly along a busy stretch of Highway 70, where Metro Nashville police say a three-vehicle crash at Beverly Hills Drive near the Cheatham County line left one person dead. The wreck happened just before 5:30 p.m. and forced emergency crews to shut down both directions of the highway while they worked the scene. Officers confirmed the crash involved three vehicles and that at least one person was killed, but the victim's identity had not been released.
As reported by WSMV, Metro Nashville Police Department officers on scene said the collision involved three vehicles and left one person dead. Highway 70 was closed in both directions at Beverly Hills Drive, and MNPD officers were unable to give an estimate on when the road would reopen.
Where it happened and traffic impacts
Emergency responders blocked the roadway near the Cheatham County line, creating long delays for motorists and pushing drivers onto nearby surface streets. That stretch of U.S. 70 has been part of targeted enforcement and safety efforts in recent years, including a "Safe on 70" campaign aimed at reducing crashes and impaired driving, according to the Safe on 70 campaign.
Investigation ongoing
Metro Nashville investigators remained at the scene collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses as the department continued its probe. As reported by WSMV, authorities had not released additional information about injuries or the identity of the person who died.
