Key West police say a visiting tourist from Tennessee wearing a hockey-style mask grabbed a dancer at VIP Gentlemen's Club on Duval Street on Tuesday night and cut her hair with a pair of scissors during an attack. Staff members called police after the woman screamed, and the man was arrested a short time later on multiple felony charges.

What police say

According to an arrest report obtained by Local10, Jeffrey Marshall Carroll, 44, of Columbia, Tennessee, first visited the club around 6:20 p.m. for a dance session, then left and returned at about 10:10 p.m. Security footage and the report state that as the victim tried to re-enter the club, Carroll grabbed her by the hair, pulled out a pair of black scissors and cut her hair. The victim told police that before leaving, he had told her, "I'm gonna take your life."

Security footage and arrest

Co-workers at the club called police after hearing the victim scream. Officers later found Carroll in the area of Louisa and Simonton streets, where they recovered the black scissors and an amphetamine pill, according to Local10. The report notes that Carroll refused to speak with officers and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Charges and arraignment

Carroll was booked on felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, and possession of a controlled substance. Monroe County Sheriff's Office inmate records list him as being held at the county jail with no bond and show an April 23 arraignment date.

Club background

The VIP Gentlemen's Club is listed at 1221 Duval St., and its online business profiles show mixed customer reviews and complaints. Local listings and a Better Business Bureau entry provide the Duval Street venue's address and visitor feedback as context for the establishment.

What’s next

Carroll's April 23 arraignment will determine whether prosecutors formally file the charges, making the hearing the next public step in the case. Key West police did not immediately release additional comment and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
