Philadelphia police are asking for the public’s help after releasing new surveillance photos of two men they say may be linked to the October killing of 16-year-old Xzavier Gregory in the city’s Rhawnhurst neighborhood. Investigators renewed their push for tips on Thursday as they work to put names to the faces in the images.
Police release suspect photos
Detectives shared the photos and urged anyone with information to call 215-686-TIPS (8477), according to 6abc. The images show two men who police believe were with a group of juveniles who may have been attending Northeast High School. The release marks the latest public move in an investigation that already led to arrests last fall.
How the shooting unfolded
The shooting unfolded on Oct. 11, just before 4 p.m., on the 1700 block of Teesdale Street after what police described as a dispute among teens, and investigators say more than 40 rounds were fired, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Officers found Gregory with a gunshot wound to the chest; he was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he died shortly after. An 18-year-old woman was also found at a nearby laundromat with a gunshot wound to her ankle and was treated at the same hospital.
Arrest and charges
Authorities previously arrested 17-year-old Sahhir Mouzon in connection with the case. He faces charges including murder, recklessly endangering another person (REAP) and violations of the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA), FOX 29 Philadelphia reported. Police said SWAT officers and homicide detectives handled the arrest and that others who were present at the time were taken to the Homicide Unit for questioning. No additional charges have been announced while detectives continue to investigate.
Tips and next steps
Investigators say the newly released photos are part of an active homicide investigation and again urged anyone with information to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS, per 6abc. Detectives are still reviewing surveillance footage and following up on witness tips as the search for the two men continues.
