A routine traffic stop turned deadly this week when a 31-year-old Lincoln County man told deputies he had swallowed an illegal narcotic, then died at a Fayetteville hospital. That incident kicked off a rapid, multi-county investigation that, one day later, ended with a raid on a Huntland home, three arrests and a stash of drugs and guns taken off the street.
According to NewsChannel 5, the man was identified as 31-year-old Jeffery Dawayne Roberts of Lincoln County. Deputies said Roberts was taken from the traffic stop to a hospital in Fayetteville, where he later died.
Search Leads To Huntland Home
Investigators said they began working quickly to trace where the suspected narcotic had come from. That search led them across the county line into Franklin County and prompted a joint investigation between the Lincoln County and Franklin County sheriff’s offices. Around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies served a search warrant at a house on Hickory Drive in Huntland, according to WAFF.
What Deputies Seized
Inside the Huntland home, authorities reported finding roughly an ounce of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and about two ounces of a substance believed to be marijuana. They also seized multiple firearms, including three rifles, two shotguns, a pistol and assorted drug paraphernalia. Those items were described in reporting by NewsChannel 5.
Three Arrested, Multiple Charges Filed
Three people were taken into custody at the Huntland residence and now face Franklin County charges, WAFF reported. Authorities identified them as Andrew Riley Archer, who faces counts including manufacture, delivery or sale of a Schedule II controlled substance, manufacture, delivery or sale of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for drug purposes.
Gordon Daniel Prock faces manufacture and delivery charges along with multiple firearms-related counts, according to the same report. Jason Taylor Foster is charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigation Continues
Both the Lincoln County and Franklin County sheriff’s offices say the investigation into Roberts’ death is ongoing, and they have not ruled out additional charges. Officials also have not yet confirmed whether toxicology testing on the suspected narcotic has been completed.
