A Sunday pursuit for a suspect in an armed carjacking out of Lebanon ended on the pavement at the Old Hickory Boulevard interchange in Mt. Juliet, when the stolen vehicle crashed into a tow truck, and the driver was taken into custody, authorities said. The wreck shut down the I-40 Old Hickory ramp while emergency crews worked the scene, and police reported only non-life-threatening injuries.
Crash At Old Hickory Boulevard Exit Ends Pursuit
According to WSMV, Lebanon Police first responded to the armed carjacking on Sunday afternoon, then shared a description of the stolen vehicle with neighboring agencies. Mt. Juliet officers later spotted the car westbound on I-40 near mile marker 226 and tried to pull it over. Mt. Juliet Police Department officers deployed spike strips during the pursuit, and the driver took the Old Hickory Boulevard exit at mile marker 221, where the car collided with a tow truck in the interchange area. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and all reported injuries were described by police as non-life-threatening.
How Officers Tracked The Car
Mt. Juliet police regularly coordinate with nearby departments to intercept hotlisted vehicles, leaning on technology and shared radio traffic to move quickly. The Mt. Juliet Police Newsroom has previously highlighted the department’s Guardian Shield license-plate reader program and multi-agency communication as tools that help officers locate stolen cars in real time.
Traffic And Safety Takeaways
The crash briefly closed the Old Hickory I-40 ramp while crews cleared the wreckage and conducted their investigation, backing up traffic at the busy interchange that links Wilson and Davidson counties. Hoodline has previously covered another armed carjacking that escalated into a high-speed chase ending in Mt. Juliet, underscoring how stolen-vehicle pursuits can spill onto the same stretches of interstate that commuters use every day; Teen Armed-Carjacking Chase detailed one such case in 2024.
Police have not released the suspect’s identity or announced any formal charges. Investigators with Mt. Juliet and Lebanon police continue to process evidence and follow up on leads, and officials said anyone with additional information is urged to contact either department through their public tip lines.
