A Metro Detroit family is trying to hold it together after a violent I‑75 crash near 9 Mile left a young mother clinging to her health, her car crushed under a pickup, and her fiancé racing between the hospital, home and work. Twenty‑five‑year‑old Rebekah Zimmerman survived the wreck along with the couple’s 1‑year‑old daughter, but Zimmerman has already undergone multiple surgeries and faces a long road back while the family’s only vehicle sits totaled and bills keep stacking up.
Crash details and injuries
According to FOX 2 Detroit, Zimmerman was driving to pick up her fiancé when a pickup truck came down on top of her sedan. She has since had six surgeries and suffered a broken foot, broken nose, a shattered kneecap and other serious injuries. Per the family’s GoFundMe, the crash happened on March 30, and a good Samaritan pulled their daughter, Aliyah, from the back seat. The toddler escaped with only a bruise.
Family struggles while mother recovers
Zimmerman’s fiancé, Marcel Rachel, told FOX 2 Detroit he has been splitting his time between caring for Rebekah, looking after their daughter and trying to keep his job. He described the shock of seeing their only car destroyed and the reality of trying to rebuild while medical, childcare and transportation costs pile up. “Anybody with a heart can see we’re trying to get through this situation,” he said, asking the community for help.

The family’s fundraiser is aimed at covering surgeries, rehab, childcare and transportation. An April 19 update showed about $5,253 raised toward a $10,000 goal.
