Police say a 51-year-old South Ogden woman told someone in a text, “I smashed the bottle over his head,” and now she is charged with murder after officers found her boyfriend dead on a living-room couch with a severe head wound.

Officers responded to a home near 4100 South and 850 East after a 911 call about an unresponsive man. According to KSL TV, police arrived Tuesday to find the man seated on the couch with a blood-soaked towel under his chin and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office has charged Terri Morgan, 51, with murder, and she is being held without bail at the Weber County Jail, KSL TV reports.

Investigators say Morgan’s phone told a grim story of its own. Detectives searched her device and found a thread of texts and photos showing the injured man with a bloody towel. One message, police say, read, “I smashed the bottle over his head,” and was timestamped about 30 minutes before the 911 call, according to FOX13. Dispatch records also indicate Morgan was initially uncooperative and refused when dispatchers asked her to perform chest compressions.

Police Affidavit Details

Officers say the living room showed clear signs of an altercation, including a hole in a wall and glass shards on the couch, and that Morgan had blood smeared on her face, hands, and legs, according to the booking affidavit cited by KSL TV.

One neighbor told the station the victim “was a very nice man.” The affidavit also says Morgan told investigators she pushed the bottle against the man’s face, tried to apply pressure with towels, and later took a nap before calling for help.

Court and Legal Next Steps

The Weber County Attorney’s Office filed murder charges, and Morgan remains in custody, FOX13 reports. Under Utah law, murder is a first-degree felony punishable by lengthy prison terms, per Utah Code.
