Pittsburgh’s hometown beer is coming back to the Golden Triangle. Pittsburgh Brewing Co., the maker of Iron City Beer, is opening a new downtown taproom in the Alcoa Building at 611 William Penn Place on Wednesday, April 15, marking the brand’s return inside city limits. It will be the brewery’s second taproom, joining the production-site spot the company operates in Creighton.
Taproom details and what’s on tap
The downtown bar will keep things tight and familiar, pouring core staples like Iron City, Evil Eye, and IC Light alongside the brewery’s mango and berry variations in a streamlined lineup aimed squarely at office workers and visitors. “It feels great getting back downtown, we're kind of out of the city a little bit up here so to have a presence downtown just feels right,” Alex Gonzalez, Pittsburgh Brewing’s vice president of operations, told the Pittsburgh Business Times, as reported by WPXI.
Creighton home base
The company has produced Iron City at a large Creighton campus since 2022 and runs a taproom at that site, listing 150 Ferry Street, Creighton, as its main address and public destination, according to Pittsburgh Brewing Company. The extensive build-out there, which brought full-scale production back to the facility in 2022, was chronicled by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
Why downtown matters
The opening lines up neatly with a packed spring schedule in the city. Pittsburgh will host the NFL Draft from April 23 to 25, an event that the league says will feature festival-style attractions across Point State Park and the North Shore, according to NFL.com. That surge of out-of-towners, layered on top of returning office traffic, could give the compact Alcoa Building taproom a timely early boost.
What comes next
Pittsburgh Brewing has not yet released full operating hours for the downtown spot, but its existing events calendar and tour schedule in Creighton hint at public programming and watch-party-style gatherings to come.
