The City of Irving is aiming to light up the sky in a big way this summer, rolling out plans for a Sparks & Stripes weekend that pairs more than 700 drones with a full fireworks show over Lake Carolyn on July 3. The spectacle will be followed by a classic hometown parade and family programming through the Heritage District on Saturday, July 4, with the two-day celebration centered on Levy Event Plaza for the evening show and Heritage Park for the morning festivities. City officials say the weekend lineup will feature live music, carnival games and a livestream of the drone-and-fireworks display.
The city teased the plans yesterday, posting a promotional graphic and basic schedule on the City of Irving Facebook post. Organizers point residents and visitors to the city's online event hub for the full entertainment lineup and safety guidance ahead of the holiday weekend.
Levy Event Plaza Will Host Drones And Fireworks
According to the City of Irving, Levy Event Plaza (501 E. Las Colinas Blvd.) will open its gates at 6:15 p.m. on July 3 for an evening that includes a patriotic flyover, live music sets and a drones-and-fireworks finale scheduled for about 9:30 p.m. The city says it plans to send "over 700 drones" into the sky ahead of the pyrotechnics and will livestream the show on YouTube.
Parade And Family Fun In The Heritage District
The July 4 morning program keeps things traditional, with Irving's annual parade stepping off from City Hall at 9 a.m. and winding through the Heritage District before activities shift to Heritage Park (217 S. Main St.), where there will be live music, games and contests, according to the Irving Convention & Visitors Bureau. In its recap of recent events, the bureau also notes that the city has leaned heavily into drone technology for the show and that last summer's program drew more than 10,000 attendees and featured a Guinness World Record drone formation.
How The Drone Program Was Contracted
Public procurement records show the city issued a solicitation seeking a vendor to supply and produce a fully choreographed drone show for Sparks & Stripes, a step officials describe as necessary to stage a large, coordinated aerial display with proper safety measures. The Texas Bid listing for the RFP provides the formal public notice and directs interested parties to the city's purchasing portal for bid documents and vendor questions.
What Attendees Should Know
Organizers are urging guests to come early, pack chairs or blankets and be ready for temporary traffic pattern changes and road closures around Levy Event Plaza. Gates open at 6:15 p.m. The City of Irving notes that coolers are permitted, although outside alcohol and glass containers are not, and that pets should be left at home so they are not spooked by the fireworks.
Residents who cannot make it in person can still catch the Friday night action: the city plans to livestream the show on YouTube starting around 6 p.m. Local tourism listings also point to hotel options and after-party activities in Las Colinas.
