A reported robbery at what police believe may be an illegal gambling spot in Encino ended with three people detained on Wednesday and a lot of neighbors talking. Officers responded to the area near Valley Vista Boulevard and Sherman Oaks Avenue, where victims told police their jewelry had been snatched during the incident. Initial radio traffic suggested there were four to five suspects involved, but officers said three people were detained following a sweep of the area. No injuries were reported at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA that the suspects allegedly used bodily force to grab the jewelry from the victims. Detectives were also searching a nearby residence believed to be connected to the case, and the department said the investigation remains active as officers continue processing the scene.

Sky5 aerial footage from the station showed “multiple people being detained” as officers moved in on a residence close to the reported robbery site, KTLA reported. The video shows officers escorting several individuals out of the property while both uniformed and detective units searched the home and surrounding area for evidence.

The robbery lands at a tense moment for the San Fernando Valley, which has been dealing with a recent wave of break-ins that prompted extra patrols and added air support.
