The five-time NBA All-Star is taking over as Howard University's president of basketball operations, joining the Bison front office as they try to build on a breakthrough NCAA Tournament run. The move links Wall's outsized D.C. profile with a program riding momentum from a conference championship and its first-ever March Madness win.
ESPN insider Shams Charania was the first to report the hire, and, as detailed by Sports Illustrated, Wall will work alongside head coach Kenny Blakeney and general manager Daniel Marks on long-term strategy and player development. The addition has already sparked plenty of buzz in college hoops circles and around Washington basketball.
According to WUSA9, the president of basketball operations role is expected to touch almost every corner of the program, including recruiting, transfer portal strategy, roster management, name-image-likeness opportunities and one-on-one mentorship. The outlet also reported that Wall visited the team earlier this year and has already sat in on meetings and evaluations.
Wall was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and spent most of his career as the face of the Washington Wizards before later stops in Houston and Los Angeles. He announced his retirement in August 2025 and has since shifted into broadcasting and other basketball projects, per NBA.com.

The Bison captured the MEAC title and then edged UMBC 86-83 in the NCAA Tournament First Four, the program's first March Madness victory, a milestone that was chronicled by The Associated Press.
