A workplace dispute in Kendall ended with one man in the hospital and a 19-year-old co-worker under arrest Wednesday, according to Miami-Dade authorities.
Deputies say the altercation broke out at a worksite in Kendall shortly after 4:45 p.m., leaving one worker stabbed and badly hurt. The victim was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center for trauma care and remained hospitalized, officials said. Hours later, the alleged attacker was taken into custody and booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
According to Local 10, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Kendall job site after receiving the stabbing report. The outlet identifies the suspect as 19-year-old Edward Lowery and reports that he and the victim had worked together for about four to five months.
Deputies say suspect claimed self-defense
Per the arrest report, Lowery “spontaneously stated that he acted in self-defense” when speaking with detectives. Investigators later located him in Homestead, where deputies arrested him, according to Local 10.
Miami-Dade corrections records show Lowery was booked shortly before 1:50 a.m. Thursday. He faces a charge of second-degree attempted murder.
Charge and legal context
Second-degree attempted murder is a felony that carries significant prison exposure under Florida law. State statutes generally rank an attempted offense one level below the completed crime; see Florida Statutes, section 777.04, for details. Prosecutors will review the case file and arrest report before deciding how to move forward.
Detectives have not released additional public details, and the investigation remains active. The arrest report notes that anyone with information is asked to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
