A man was fatally shot early Saturday on a Kensington block, according to Philadelphia police, after officers found him with a gunshot wound to the back on the 1800 block of East Clementine Street shortly before 1 a.m.
Officers arrived around 12:55 a.m. and discovered the adult victim suffering from that back wound. As reported by 6abc Philadelphia, police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead a short time later. Authorities told the station that no weapon has been recovered and that no arrests have been announced.

Kensington's concentrated gun violence
Kensington has long been one of the city’s neighborhoods most affected by gun violence. A New York Times analysis, as reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, found that between 2020 and 2023, fatal shootings were more heavily concentrated in Kensington than in most neighborhoods across the United States.
Residents and neighborhood groups have attributed the persistent violence to decades of disinvestment, even as city officials have increased enforcement efforts and other initiatives targeting the area’s open-air drug market.

Philadelphia Police homicide detectives are processing the scene and seeking witnesses, along with any available video that could help identify a suspect or suspects. The department directs anyone with footage or information to contact the Homicide Unit at 215‑686‑3334 or the anonymous tip line at 215‑686‑TIPS (8477), according to Philadelphia Police Department advisories.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of his family.
