A fast-moving house fire tore through a Harvard Heights home Tuesday night, but Los Angeles firefighters stopped the flames before they could spread down the block.
Crews raced to 1047 S Oxford Avenue as fire pushed through the second floor and into the attic, with damage also affecting the first floor and basement. Firefighters worked to shield nearby properties as they attacked the blaze. No injuries were reported, and companies remained on scene for overhaul and a methodical search for any victims while traffic control was set up in the area.

What the Los Angeles Fire Department reported
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the incident was logged as INC#1687 at 8:03 p.m. First-arriving companies reported knockdown at about the 20-minute mark, a quick turnaround given the size and spread of the fire.
The department’s alert lists about 47 firefighters working the scene and notes that crews focused on exposure protection, interior fire suppression, and a search for victims. An impinged exposure was extinguished by the first-arriving companies, and LADOT was requested to assist with traffic control while firefighters completed overhaul operations.
Oxford Avenue’s recent fire history
Oxford Avenue has seen more than its share of fire engines and sirens lately. In recent years, multiple large responses have targeted this same stretch of the street, with local coverage documenting several separate incidents on the block. As reported in coverage of a rapid LAFD intervention at a nearby address, residents say the pattern has heightened worries about vacant and previously damaged properties in the neighborhood.
Investigators have not released a cause for Tuesday night’s fire, and there has been no official word on where it started. The department’s public alert did not list any suspected origin. Officials are asking anyone with information that could help the investigation to report it to the appropriate authorities.
