Authorities say a midweek raid on a Gary home ended with one man in cuffs and a table full of narcotics, guns and cash laid out as evidence.
On Wednesday, the Lake County Sheriff's drug task force and SWAT team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1900 block of Garfield Street in Gary, taking 46-year-old Kelvin Hines into custody. Investigators reported recovering a large quantity of narcotics, two firearms and more than $10,000 in cash. The case remains under active investigation and has been referred to prosecutors.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the search was carried out by the Lake County Sheriff's Drug Task Force Regional Enforcement Team, with support from the Lake County SWAT Team. Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. praised the officers involved, saying they demonstrated "outstanding determination and professionalism" in bringing the suspect into custody.
What investigators say they seized
Officers reported recovering about 1,259 grams of powdered cocaine, 163 grams of crack cocaine, $10,043 in U.S. currency and two firearms from the house. Those totals were provided to the press by the sheriff's office and republished by Country Herald.
Part of a broader enforcement push
The operation is one of several recent Lake County narcotics sweeps aimed at disrupting trafficking in and around Gary. In March, similar raids yielded more than 110 grams of cocaine, 47 grams of heroin and multiple firearms, according to reporting by FOX 32 Chicago. Officials say those specialized units are focused on dismantling supply networks that feed neighborhood-level dealers.
Legal status
Hines is facing multiple felony counts that local authorities described as including dealing cocaine and unlawful firearm possession by a felon, per figures republished by Country Herald. Prosecutors had not released formal charging documents or a court date at the time of reporting, and the sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing.
