A quiet afternoon in Lakeside turned violent when a neighborhood dispute over parked cars ended with a resident in the hospital and a felony arrest on the books.
Family members say Andrew York was left with a broken leg after he was shoved into a ditch near his home when he asked a group of drivers to move their cars off a private side street. They say York was taken to the hospital for surgery and will have to stay off the injured leg for roughly three months.
Deputies responded just after 1:30 PM to the intersection of Petite Lane and Lindo Lane, where they opened an investigation into the confrontation.
Sheriff: Suspect Arrested, Booked On Felony Charge
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office told FOX5 San Diego that a suspect was arrested and booked on a charge of felony battery causing serious bodily injury (Penal Code 243(d)).
According to the sheriff's office, there are no other outstanding suspects in the case, and the person who was arrested was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
Family: Confrontation Began After Asking Drivers To Move
York's sister, Erin York, said the side street where the conflict unfolded is clearly marked "residents and guests only." She told reporters her brother asked the group of drivers to move their vehicles so residents could still get in and out to pick up their children.
The family says that request escalated into violence when York was shoved into a ditch. They say he needed surgery for his injuries and will be unable to put weight on his leg for about three months.
Neighborhood Traffic Complaints Provide Context
Neighbors say the confrontation did not happen in a vacuum. Petite Lane has been at the center of traffic and safety concerns in recent months, including an incident where a vehicle drove onto a sidewalk near Tierra del Sol Middle School, as reported by NBC 7 San Diego.
Residents told local reporters that ongoing parking problems, school drop-off congestion, and repeated disputes along the narrow side street have created rising tensions in the neighborhood.
Investigation Under Review; Tips Requested
The sheriff's office told FOX5 San Diego that the case has been submitted to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office for review, and detectives are continuing to investigate.
Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact Detective Whitney Worthington at (619) 938-1384.
Neighbors say the arrest and DA review bring some measure of relief, but they are hoping renewed attention to parking and safety along Petite Lane helps prevent future confrontations. Investigators are urging anyone with video or additional tips to come forward as the case moves ahead.
