Inside a converted hardwood flooring warehouse on Lomas Santa Fe Drive, members log into rows of AI-driven exercise machines with a wristband, then head to an ocean-view lawn, an infrared sauna, or a naturopathic doctor's office for an IV drip. Bluprint Wellness opened in Solana Beach in February 2026 as what its founder calls a first-of-its-kind blend of high-performance fitness, functional medicine, and recovery therapy under one roof.
Founder Jonathan Uphoff, a Solana Beach local with 27 years in the fitness and wellness industry, spent roughly three and a half years building the center after scouting the Lomas Santa Fe space a decade before it opened, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Uphoff, who moved to San Diego in 2011 and started his first successful wellness business at age 23, told the paper that Bluprint aims to “elevate health, optimize performance and support longevity.” He put it bluntly to the Union-Tribune: “No one else is doing anything close to Bluprint Wellness.”
That confidence rests partly on hardware few American gyms can claim. Bluprint holds the first U.S. allocation of Technogym's Biostrength equipment line, and the Italian manufacturer visited the Solana Beach facility in March 2026 before approving it as the first American facility to feature the gear, per the Union-Tribune's reporting. The machines use patented, aerospace-derived Biodrive technology that adjusts resistance, range of motion, and body posture in real time, a design Technogym says can boost muscle activation efficiency by up to 30%, according to FitTech Global. At Bluprint, the same equipment tracks body composition and training progress as members swipe in machine by machine.
A Global Wellness Boom Lands on a Tight Coastal Corridor
The Solana Beach opening arrives as the broader wellness industry is expanding fast. The Global Wellness Institute reported in November 2025 that the global wellness economy hit $6.8 trillion in 2024 and is projected to reach $9.8 trillion by 2029, fueled by consumer demand for longevity and preventive care, per the Global Wellness Institute. A 2026 analysis of McKinsey consumer research found that 82% of U.S. consumers now treat wellness as a top everyday priority, driving more than $500 billion in annual domestic spending, according to EHL Insights.
Solana Beach's own demographics help explain why a membership-by-application model can work there. U.S. Census Bureau data covering 2020 through 2024 puts the city's median household income at $152,167, with a median age around 47 to 50, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Commercial real estate filings from Anchor Point Capital describe Lomas Santa Fe Drive as the city's primary commercial corridor, one marked by strict development controls and near-zero retail vacancy, making Bluprint's redevelopment of a former flooring center a notable feat in a market with high barriers to entry.
Jockeys From Del Mar Turn to Recovery Suites Between Races
Bluprint's clientele includes several top jockeys from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, who use the center's infrared saunas and cold plunge tubs to recover between races during the demanding summer season. Jockey Juan Hernandez, who led Del Mar's 2026 season with 30 wins, uses an infrared sauna before races and cryotherapy afterward, telling the Union-Tribune that the recovery services leave him feeling fresh. Hernandez's summer schedule illustrates the stakes: in August 2026 he traveled to London to race at York and flew back the next day to ride in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar. Other members of Bluprint's clientele named by the Union-Tribune include jockeys Umberto Vispoli and Diego Herrera, alongside member Mike Smith.
The physical toll on jockeys is built into the sport's oversight. National Thoroughbred Racing Association safety standards require accredited tracks such as Del Mar to maintain strict jockey health protocols, medical care standards, and weight-scale requirements, according to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. That regulatory backdrop helps explain why riders lean on modalities like infrared heat and cold immersion rather than treating recovery as optional.
An On-Site Naturopathic Doctor Handles the Medical Side
Beyond the gym floor, Bluprint offers functional medicine through an on-site naturopathic doctor, Dr. Lain Lye, who specializes in hormone optimization, metabolic health, and IV nutrient therapy. Lye provides personalized consultations and functional-medicine plans, using advanced diagnostics to build individualized programs for members, the Union-Tribune reported. Uphoff said he hired Lye on the spot after they first met.
That clinical offering operates inside a specific legal framework. Under California Business and Professions Code Section 3640.8, licensed naturopathic doctors must complete a state-approved specialty course before they can legally administer IV therapies, per the California Board of Naturopathic Medicine. State legislation passed in late 2022, Senate Bill 994 and Assembly Bill 2685, also elevated oversight to that board and authorized naturopathic doctors to supervise licensed vocational nurses administering IV vitamin therapies and injections, according to the California Naturopathic Doctors Association — a shift from prior law, which had restricted NDs from delegating IV administration to vocational nursing staff.
Membership Is by Application Only
Bluprint rounds out its offerings with one-on-one personal training, special events and workshops, and an exercise and event lawn with ocean views. Karen Cook, the center's creative director, shapes the member experience and community outreach, according to the Union-Tribune's reporting. The center guarantees training results for members who show up and do the work, but access isn't automatic — membership is by application only, with details available at bluprintwellness.com.
Bluprint's arrival fits a wider pattern of high-end wellness and lifestyle brands investing in coastal North County San Diego real estate. Hoodline reported in April 2026 that a coastal office campus in nearby Del Mar Heights sold for $43 million in a red-hot coastal deal, underscoring investor appetite for the region even as commercial space along corridors like Lomas Santa Fe Drive remains scarce. Bluprint Wellness is located at 137 Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach.
