A Sunday night dog attack in southeast Oklahoma City left a man hospitalized and two people in handcuffs after officers tracked the victim and the animals into a nearby woodline. Police said the man, who has not been publicly identified, was rushed to a local hospital, and his condition has not been released. The case remains under active investigation by Oklahoma City police.
Officers Say Call Came In Around 10 p.m.
Oklahoma City police told reporters they were dispatched at about 10 p.m. to the area of Southeast 15th Street and South Jordan Avenue after reports that a man had been bitten by two dogs, according to News 9. Officers located the injured man and the two dogs in a woodline, the department said, and took two people into custody near the scene. The animals were sent to OKC Animal Welfare for evaluation and handling, per the report.
Recent Maulings Strain Animal-Welfare Capacity
Dog attacks have cropped up elsewhere across the metro in recent months, creating a heavier workload for first responders and animal-control staff, as noted in coverage of recent metro dog attacks. City officials have cited limited kennel capacity as one reason behind a planned expansion: the Louisa McCune Animal Welfare Center is expected to boost shelter space and clinical services. Advocates say additional shelter resources can speed medical care and help reduce chaotic scenes when aggressive animals are involved.
What Officials Say Comes Next
Police say inquiries are ongoing and have not yet disclosed whether criminal charges will be filed, according to News 9. Animal-welfare staff typically assess animals involved in attacks before officials determine quarantine, seizure or other next steps. Investigators have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Oklahoma City police, who say they will release more details as the probe moves forward.
