A late-night confrontation on East Colfax Avenue ended in gunfire Saturday, and Aurora police are now trying to track down the shooter. Officers rushed to the area of East Colfax Avenue and North Macon Street, where they found a man lying in the median with a gunshot wound to his arm. Police provided first aid until Aurora Fire Rescue medics arrived, and the victim was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Officers were called to the scene just before 11:45 p.m. on April 11 after reports of shots fired, according to FOX31 Denver. Investigators said the shooting followed a verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect. At some point during the argument, the suspect allegedly pulled a gun, shot the man, and then took off on foot. The Aurora Police Department has labeled the case an open investigation, and no arrests have been reported as of the latest update, according to the department’s press release cited by FOX31 Denver.
Aurora's Colfax corridor under scrutiny
The stretch of East Colfax has already been drawing extra attention from law enforcement. The Aurora Police Department’s Gun Violence Suppression Team recently announced an arrest in a separate nonfatal shooting along Colfax on March 27, highlighting the department’s push to clamp down on street violence in the corridor, according to an Aurora Police Department news release.
Investigation ongoing
Detectives say the latest case remains active as they continue reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Authorities have not announced any arrests as of Sunday, and the department says the investigation is still open.
