
A late-night two-vehicle collision on Elizabeth Avenue left one driver dead on Tuesday, turning a stretch of the busy corridor into an active crash scene as first responders moved in. Emergency crews diverted traffic for a short time while investigators documented the area. Authorities have not yet released the victim's name.
What officials say
According to News 12, the crash happened at about 11:42 p.m. Tuesday and involved two vehicles on Elizabeth Avenue. A police spokesperson told the outlet that the driver of one vehicle died, while the other car carried two people who stayed at the scene after the impact.

Elizabeth Avenue cuts through the city's downtown, just a few blocks from both the Elizabeth Police Department and the Union County Courthouse. The police headquarters is listed at 1 Police Plaza, according to the City of Elizabeth, and the courthouse address is 2 Broad Street, according to Union County.
Investigation under way
As reported by News 12, police said "the deceased was the sole occupant of their vehicle," and the crash remains under investigation. Detectives are continuing to review the physical evidence from the scene and speak with witnesses before releasing additional details.
