A late-night emergency at a Singer Island high-rise ended in tragedy Tuesday when a woman was found dead at the bottom of a condominium pool, sparking an active investigation by Riviera Beach authorities. First-arriving officers pulled the woman from the water and attempted CPR, but Riviera Beach Fire Rescue pronounced her dead at the scene. Detectives and crime-scene units stayed on the property into the night while the medical examiner was called in. Officials have not yet released the woman's name or said how she died.
Police response
Riviera Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Mike Jachles told WPBF that the emergency call came in at 10:30 p.m. reporting a woman at the bottom of a pool at the North Ocean Drive address. Officers arrived and tried to revive her with CPR, but Riviera Beach Fire Rescue ultimately pronounced the victim dead on scene. Jachles said detectives and crime-scene technicians were processing the area while the medical examiner responded.
The scene: an oceanfront condominium
Property listings and public records identify 5440 North Ocean Drive as a long-established Singer Island condo tower featuring an elevated pool deck and beachfront amenities, according to Redfin. Listings describe a community pool overlooking the beach, a setup that helps explain why emergency crews were on scene soon after the 10:30 p.m. call. As of the latest update, neighbors and building management had not issued any public statements about the incident.
Pool safety in Palm Beach County
The Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County reports that unsupervised activity in and around water is the leading cause of drowning in the county, and that seniors experience the highest drowning rates. That context helps explain why scenes like Tuesday night's routinely draw a medical-examiner response. The coalition offers free and reduced-cost swim lessons and educational programs aimed at cutting water-related deaths, and it urges residents to learn CPR and use multiple layers of protection around pools, according to the Palm Beach County Drowning Prevention Coalition.
Investigation ongoing
Riviera Beach police say the investigation remains active and have not described a cause of death or identified any suspicious circumstances at this stage, according to WPBF. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Riviera Beach Police Department; non-emergency contact information is available on the city's police webpage.
