Two people, a teenage boy and an adult man, were wounded in a Tuesday night shooting in Northwest D.C., and police say a suspect is still on the run. Officers were first called around 7:15 p.m., and the victims were found in separate locations near Mt. Pleasant Street and Lamont Street NW. The Metropolitan Police Department says the investigation is active, and the conditions of the victims have not yet been released.
Police: Victims hit in separate blocks, teen suspect on scooter
According to FOX 5 DC, which cites a Metropolitan Police crime alert, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 3300 block of Mt. Pleasant Street NW around 7:15 p.m. One victim was found there, while the second victim was later located in the 1600 block of Lamont Street NW and taken to a hospital. The department’s Third District alert says investigators are looking for an 18-year-old male suspect who was wearing a black mask and all-black clothing and was last seen riding a Lime scooter. Police have not released updates on the victims’ conditions and are asking anyone with information to contact detectives.
Separate Truxton Circle shooting leaves child, 2 men wounded
The MPD stressed that the Mt. Pleasant case is separate from an earlier shooting in the 400 block of N Street NW that left two men and a 5-year-old boy wounded, Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said at a news conference. That incident in Truxton Circle appeared to be random and triggered an increased patrol presence while detectives searched for two suspects last seen in dark clothing, according to WTOP. Carroll called the violence “completely unacceptable” and said suppression teams were stepping up patrols in the area.
How to help and safety notes
Investigators handling the Mt. Pleasant and Lamont Street shooting are asking anyone with information to call the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or text tips to 50411, per FOX 5 DC. Police also urged residents to report any sightings of someone matching the suspect description, an 18-year-old male dressed in all black and riding a Lime scooter, and to avoid posting potentially identifying video that could interfere with the investigation. The department says updates will be shared as the case moves forward.
