A Sunday drive in Mesa turned violent when an alleged road-rage encounter ended in a stabbing on the Guadalupe off-ramp of Loop 202, leaving one person injured. The off-ramp was shut down while troopers investigated, and authorities said the wounded driver managed to get to an urgent-care clinic on their own.
According to AZFamily, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers were called just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday for reports of a stabbing on the Guadalupe off-ramp from State Route 202. Troopers said the confrontation started as a road-rage dispute that escalated into a physical fight on the ramp, and the stabbing happened during that struggle. DPS said it was still investigating and did not immediately say whether anyone was in custody, and the ramp remained closed at the time of the report.
Why Road Rage Is an Increasing Concern in Arizona
Arizona has seen violent road-rage incidents become more common in recent years, a trend that has pushed officials to increase enforcement and ramp up public-awareness campaigns. As reported by ABC15, there is no specific statute labeled "road rage," so state and local agencies have leaned on unmarked units and other strategies to track and stop aggressive drivers.
"Do not engage with that person," DPS officials told ABC15 when describing how drivers should react to someone who is escalating on the road. Instead of confronting another driver, they advise pulling into a well-lit, busy area or calling 911 if you think you are being followed or threatened.
Troopers continue to investigate, and the Guadalupe off-ramp remained blocked with no estimate on when it might reopen, according to AZFamily. Authorities have not released additional details about the victim's condition or any suspect information, and this story will be updated as law enforcement shares more.
