A quiet Saturday in Nevada City turned deadly when a midday shooting on Yellow Pine Lane left one person dead, a case that investigators have now classified as a homicide.
Nevada County deputies were called out shortly after 12 p.m. to the Graniteville Road area, where they arrived to what Sheriff Shannan Moon described as “an active, ongoing incident,” according to KOLO. Portions of Yellow Pine Lane were temporarily shut down while detectives canvassed the scene, worked the perimeter and started collecting evidence.
The county’s investigation team later ruled the shooting a homicide, and one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by ABC10. The outlet noted that the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office had not taken a suspect into custody and had not released any suspect description.
Hoping to fill in the gaps, the sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to reach out, a call for help that was highlighted in local coverage by 2 News. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, citing the need to notify family and complete the coroner’s review.
