A late-night shooting on a quiet Benbrook street has left a man and a woman dead, and police are still trying to piece together what happened.

Officers and EMS were dispatched around midnight last Tuesday to a home in the 4200 block of Plantation Drive after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where the man died shortly after arrival and the woman later succumbed to her injuries, authorities said. The investigation remains active, and police have not released the name of a suspect or a possible motive.

Police response

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Benbrook police and EMS responded to a report of shots fired around 12 a.m. in the 4200 block of Plantation Drive. Officers found a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

Victims identified and medical examiner findings

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 39-year-old Cliffton Wayne Jones, who was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 12:47 a.m. The woman was identified as 46-year-old Lisa Speer Craig. The medical examiner ruled Craig’s death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the neck and listed her date of death as April 17. An autopsy to determine Jones’s official cause and manner of death was still pending, the office said.

Investigation ongoing

Benbrook police have not released information about what led up to the shooting, the relationship between the two victims, or the identity of any suspected shooter, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The outlet also reported a separate Benbrook killing last Friday that left a Luella Merrett Elementary assistant principal dead and resulted in an arrest and a manslaughter charge.

Detectives are continuing to process the scene on Plantation Drive, and Benbrook police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department.
