A Miramar man’s Friday drive in an orange Lamborghini SUV ended in handcuffs in Miami Gardens, after police say he tried to outrun officers, crashed into another car and then took off on foot. The 25-year-old, identified in an arrest report as Kimani Kirk Simons, was taken into custody a short distance from the wreck and is now facing a stack of traffic and resisting-related charges.
How police say the chase unfolded
According to Miami Gardens police, their Stolen Vehicle Unit was alerted that an orange Lamborghini had fled from Miramar officers following an attempted traffic stop. The SUV, which carried a New Jersey plate, reportedly sped south from Palm Avenue and Miramar Parkway, then pulled an “aggressive U-turn” at Northwest 187th Street and 47th Avenue to head back north.
Investigators say the driver blew through a red light and slammed into another vehicle near Northwest 199th Street and 37th Avenue. Simons and a passenger allegedly bailed out of the Lamborghini and ran. Officers detained Simons nearby, and the arrest report lists charges including aggravated fleeing or eluding, leaving the scene of a crash without serious injury, resisting an officer without violence and reckless driving causing damage. The Lamborghini was towed from the scene, according to Local 10.
Legal consequences
Under Florida law, fleeing or attempting to elude a law-enforcement officer is a felony, and the stakes get higher when officers have lights and sirens activated or when a chase leads to injuries. The Florida Senate’s statutory text for section 316.1935 details the different degrees of the offense and spells out potential prison time, fines and driver’s-license suspensions that can follow a conviction. Depending on the exact charges and any prior record, aggravated fleeing and related traffic counts can add up to several years behind bars and other long-term fallout, as outlined in the statute from the Florida Senate.
Not the first high-end pursuit here
This is not South Florida’s first tango with a high-end Lamborghini chase. In 2023, a separate pursuit involving a Lamborghini ended with multiple collisions and one arrest, as reported by Local 10. Those kinds of incidents have raised questions from residents and officials about how safe major roads really are when high-performance cars are driven recklessly.
The Miami Gardens Police Department has not released additional details in the latest case, and detectives say the investigation is still active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Miami Gardens police.
