A mystery blue sedan is now at the center of a South L.A. homicide case, and Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives are asking the public for help spotting it. On April 29, investigators circulated new images and a bulletin tied to a deadly shooting near Athens Park that left two men dead and five others wounded. The gunfire broke out around 8 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2025, in the 13200 block of Jarvis Avenue, where seven males were shot. Detectives say a blue 2000s sedan, possibly a Dodge Caliber, is believed to have been involved and are urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers.
Detectives Release Vehicle Images
In a post on X, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it is trying to identify and locate a blue 2000s sedan, described in the bulletin as possibly a Dodge Caliber, that detectives believe was involved in the shooting. The notice lists bulletin reference number 025-01358-2141-011 and asks anyone with information to contact Det. J. Carlin or Det. A. Sanchez at (323) 890-5500, or to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. The social media post included still images of the vehicle and a short description but did not name any suspects. The bulletin was issued this week by LASD’s information bureau.
What Happened That Night
The shooting unfolded in the 13200 block of Jarvis Avenue near Athens Park at about 8 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2025, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Los Angeles Times. Paramedics took both victims to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Investigators later learned that four other men and one juvenile had also been shot and treated for non-life-threatening wounds. As of the time of the LASD bulletin, there had been no public arrests or suspect identifications in the case, and officials had not disclosed a motive.
How The Public Can Help
Officials are asking anyone who recognizes the vehicle, or who may have captured the incident on video, to contact detectives or submit anonymous tips through LA Regional Crime Stoppers. The department’s tip number and Crime Stoppers information are also carried by local outlets including CBS Los Angeles. Hoodline’s earlier coverage, “Two Dead, Five Injured,” lays out scene details that investigators say may be relevant. Tips can also be left at LA Crime Stoppers.
Investigation Status
Detectives did not say in the bulletin whether new leads prompted the renewed public appeal. The LASD post focused on identifying the sedan shown in the images and on providing contact information for investigators. The case remains an open homicide investigation handled by the department’s Homicide Bureau, and the agency continues to urge anyone with information to come forward. Officials have not released images of suspects or announced any arrests tied to the case.
