
Miami Gardens police now say a grim discovery in a neighborhood canal is officially a homicide investigation.
Officers found a woman’s body last Thursday morning near 1005 NW 208th Terrace at about 8:39 a.m. The Miami‑Dade County Medical Examiner later ruled the death a homicide, and authorities identified the victim as 55‑year‑old Geneva Bennett Prevatt. Detectives say the case remains very much open and are urging neighbors and anyone else with information to speak up.

In a statement, Miami Gardens police said officers discovered the body around 8:39 a.m. in the 1000 block of Northwest 208th Street and later identified the woman as Geneva Bennett Prevatt, 55, according to NBC6 South Florida. How the body was recovered
Miami‑Dade Sheriff's Office divers pulled the body from a canal near Northwest 208 Street and 13 Court after officers responded shortly before 8:40 a.m., according to Local 10. A police spokeswoman told the station the body was initially described as "partially decomposed" and unidentified when it was recovered, and that the investigation remains ongoing.
