Officers pulled the woman from the water near Lloyd Harbor Road at about 7:45 p.m., and Homicide Squad detectives are now working to determine who she was and how she died. Police have not released her identity or a possible cause of death.

The recovery took place off Lloyd Harbor, a small North Shore village on the Lloyd Neck peninsula that stretches into the Long Island Sound. The shoreline in the area is a mix of state parkland and private waterfront properties and docks. Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, which extends into the Sound and is a popular access point for anglers and boaters, is one of the public shorelines in the village, according to Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve.
