Nashville woke up to a crisp 46°F on Wednesday morning, but the warm-up is moving fast. Mostly sunny skies will push highs into the mid 70s today, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid 80s by Friday and through the weekend. South and southeast winds start off light early in the week, then pick up late in the weekend, with gusts as high as 25 mph possible Sunday. Little to no measurable rain is expected through at least next week, extending a dry stretch across Middle Tennessee.
Afternoon And Weekend Outlook
Skies stay mostly sunny through Thursday, and temperatures will steadily climb Friday into the weekend. The hottest day looks to be Sunday, when highs could reach near 86°F and winds may gust up to 25 mph. Overnight lows will be on the mild side, hovering in the low to mid 50s, so nights will not offer much in the way of cooling. Forecasters at the National Weather Service highlight the limited rain chances and say near-record readings are possible this weekend.
Drying Soils Raise Drought Concerns
With very little rain in the forecast, an already dry start to the year could allow local drought conditions to worsen, putting extra stress on lawns, gardens and streams. For updates and guidance on drought conditions and water use, see Drought.gov.
Plan For Outdoor Activities
Sunny afternoons will be prime time for yard work and weekend plans, but a few basics go a long way: bring water, sunscreen and some shade for extended time outside. If you have Sunday events with tents or lightweight gear, make sure they are tied down, since those gusty south winds later in the day could make loose setups unstable.
