An 18-year-old woman was grazed in the back of the neck early Tuesday during a drive-by shooting on San Antonio’s Southwest Side, a jarring burst of gunfire that sent detectives searching for clues near Hayden Drive and Old Pearsall Road just after 5 a.m. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, and investigators say they pulled dozens of shell casings from the scene.
What Investigators Are Saying
According to WOAI, someone drove past and opened fire at a home in the area, grazing the 18-year-old in the back of the neck. Officers combed the neighborhood and recovered dozens of shell casings. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she is expected to be okay. Police told WOAI that there are no suspects identified and no known motive at this time.
Violent Stretch Along Old Pearsall Road
The shooting lands on a corridor that has already seen recent gunfire. As reported by KSAT, a road rage shooting the night before near Old Pearsall Road left two people injured, including a pregnant woman, and led to multiple detentions. The San Antonio Express-News also documented a 2023 fatal shooting outside an illegal gambling house on Hayden Drive, a reminder that violence has flared in this pocket of the Southwest Side before.
Investigation Status
Police have not released a suspect description or announced any arrests, per WOAI. Additional details were not immediately available as detectives continue to investigate the drive-by and sort through the evidence collected at the scene.
