A quiet north Durham block turned into a smoky scene Monday, as firefighters battled a house fire on Timberview Drive near Arborwood Drive. Multiple Durham Fire Department trucks lined the street while thick smoke rose over the neighborhood and crews worked to beat back the flames. Hillandale Road was shut down between Horton Road and Meadowcreek Drive while emergency teams operated in the area.
According to WRAL, Durham fire units responded to the home and crews moved in to knock down lingering hot spots as Sky 5 flew overhead. Footage from the outlet showed firefighters concentrating on extinguishing the blaze and securing the surrounding area.
Road closure and neighborhood impact
The shutdown of Hillandale Road sent drivers onto side streets and pushed commuters into last-minute detours. Neighbors reported seeing heavy emergency response activity, and some nearby roads were briefly blocked as firefighters repositioned equipment and stretched hose lines toward the house.
