North Houston is getting its own dedicated fight house. Red Owl Boxing is putting up a two-story, boxing-only arena called the Owl's Nest, a 25,000-square-foot venue at 2929 FM 1960 that the company says is set to open in 2027.
According to CultureMap Houston, the Owl's Nest is being built with both fighters and cameras in mind. Plans call for a mezzanine level with luxury suites, a green room for content creation, an expanded truck bay sized up for television vans, dedicated entrance ramps for fighter walkouts, plus a full box office and concessions. CultureMap reports that Red Owl intends to stage 21 live, televised boxing events at the arena between its 2027 opening and the end of 2028.
The Houston Chronicle reports the building is expected to hold roughly 3,000 fans and will replace the rented Perry Road facility where Red Owl promoted 17 shows from 2021 to 2025. The Chronicle also notes that Red Owl already packages fights for DAZN and other television partners, and frames the Owl's Nest as a production-first venue tailored for televised boxing.
The expansion comes as Red Owl reshuffles its leadership. The company has named Greg Bloom as its new CEO. Bloom previously led Bareknuckle Boxing and helped push that brand into new U.S. and international markets. “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to help lead Red Owl Boxing into its next chapter,” Bloom said, according to Fight News.
Built for TV and VIPs
Red Owl Boxing describes the Owl's Nest as a venue designed from the ground up around cameras, content teams and high-end spectators. The company highlights TV truck access, green rooms for production crews and VIP suites as core elements of the build, reflecting a focus on broadcast production and a curated in-arena experience. Red Owl currently lists its Houston operations at 12539 Perry Rd while the new arena is under development.
What It Means For Houston
The project could give Houston fight fans something they have not had in a while, a promoter-owned arena dedicated to boxing that is built to handle regular TV cards. Local production crews, vendors and arena workers could also see steadier work if the schedule fills out. The Houston Chronicle notes that a dedicated space like this can anchor a more reliable calendar of television tapings and create ongoing jobs for local support staff.
Meanwhile, Red Owl Keeps Touring
Construction or not, Red Owl is not hanging up its gloves on the road. The promoter plans to keep staging shows outside Houston, including BoxFest XIX on May 29 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, headlined by Deonte “Lay 'Em Down” Brown vs. Yohan Vasquez, according to Tapology. The company says it will continue producing DAZN-televised cards as the Owl's Nest moves toward opening.
The arena is a clear bet on Houston's long boxing tradition. Red Owl expects to open the Owl's Nest in 2027 and stage roughly 21 televised shows across 2027 and 2028, CultureMap Houston reports. Details such as construction timelines and permitting were not included in the announcement, but the project itself stands out as one of the city's most concrete efforts in years to establish a true home base for local boxing.
