A 24-year-old man is facing criminal charges in Northeast El Paso after officers pulled him over on Wednesday and reported finding firearms and ammunition in his vehicle, according to police. The traffic stop happened in the 3100 block of Titanic Avenue near Devils Tower Circle after a report of shots fired in the area. Authorities booked the suspect on counts tied to firing a weapon in public and held him on bond.
As reported by KVIA, El Paso police stopped driver Daniel Reinert and said they found handguns and ammunition inside his car. Investigators say Reinert admitted he had fired shots into the air "that day and on Tuesday." He was booked into the county detention facility on two counts: deadly conduct and discharge of a firearm, and his bond was set at $10,000.
Traffic stop followed a shots-fired call
Reinert told officers he had fired into the air "that day and on Tuesday," according to KVIA. Police say the traffic stop and the reported discovery of guns and ammunition unfolded in the 3100 block of Titanic Avenue near Devils Tower Circle in Northeast El Paso. Officers were following up on reports of gunfire in the neighborhood when they pulled the vehicle over.
What the charges mean
Under Texas law, deadly conduct can range from a misdemeanor to a felony when it involves knowingly firing a gun at or toward a person or an occupied building. Texas Penal Code Section 22.05 spells out what qualifies as deadly conduct and the situations that can push it into felony territory. If prosecutors pursue it as a third-degree felony, Section 12.34 allows for a punishment range of two to 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000. Prosecutors will decide whether to seek felony charges based on the evidence from the stop and the broader investigation.
Next steps in the case
Reinert remains in custody while the El Paso County courts sort out formal filings and set hearing dates. Local police say they are still investigating the original shots-fired call and are asking anyone with information to contact the El Paso Police Department. Additional details are expected to surface in court records as the case moves forward.
