Orlando police shut down a stretch of Bethune Drive last night after reports of a shooting near Columbia Street, keeping nearby roads blocked off as officers and investigators worked the scene into the early morning hours. By that time, authorities still had not released information about possible injuries, suspects, or a motive.
A photo gallery published today shows 10 images credited to staff photographers that capture officers, rolls of crime-scene tape, and a Crime Scene Investigation van lined up along Bethune Drive, according to WFTV. The photos also show several patrol cars with flashing lights as investigators continue examining the area late into the night.
Where it happened
Bethune Drive and Columbia Street sit inside the Washington Shores/Lake Mann area east of downtown, as shown on a City of Orlando neighborhood map. The block is primarily residential, and the overnight law-enforcement activity made the police presence especially visible to people in the area and to passing traffic.
Investigation ongoing
By early today, Orlando police had not released word on whether anyone was hurt or if any arrests had been made, and WFTV reported that its gallery included only a brief caption with the images. Investigators remained on scene into the morning as the department continues to probe what led to the late-night shooting.
