Wicker Park just scored a new sandwich spot, even if it slipped in under the radar. Chicago Pickle Eatery quietly opened a walk-up counter this week at 1308 N. Milwaukee Avenue, even as owner Mohamad Atieh works to bring his original Avondale shop back from a September roof fire that shut it down. The new outpost is already cranking out the brand’s bodega-sized sandwiches and breakfast staples while Atieh focuses on repairs and permitting in Avondale.
Wicker Park outpost takes over former Angry Crab
As reported by Block Club Chicago, the Wicker Park location has taken over the former Angry Crab space and brings a sweeter twist to the menu with a dessert bar. Customers will find gelato, pastries and coffee from Magnífico Coffee Roasters, and Atieh told the outlet the shop will also serve crepes, waffles and Belgian chocolates, all alongside Chicago Pickle’s usual lineup of breakfast sandwiches, wings and deli-style subs.
From Avondale beginnings to a growing North Side footprint
Chicago Pickle started on Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale, then expanded north. The business’s website lists its original address at 3055 N. Milwaukee and a second shop at 4515 N. Sheridan Road. According to city business-license records, the 1308 N. Milwaukee address is registered to Chicago Pickle Eatery, giving the Wicker Park storefront official status. With the new counter open while Avondale undergoes repairs, the brand now has a physical presence in multiple North Side neighborhoods at once.
Owner on the Avondale fire
In an interview with Block Club Chicago, Atieh said the fire began when a contractor was doing work on the building’s roof that was unrelated to Chicago Pickle’s operations. He added, "fortunately, no one got hurt. that was our biggest thing." Atieh told the outlet he hopes to have the Avondale shop back open by the end of 2026, pending structural work and city permitting.
Menu, inspections and what to expect
The Wicker Park counter is serving Chicago Pickle favorites, including the namesake Chicago Pickle sandwich, which stacks pastrami, corned beef, Swiss, coleslaw, Russian dressing and pickles into one deli-style gut-buster. A full deli menu is already posted on the Wicker Park ordering page. Public inspection records show the new address passed a health inspection on March 18, 2026, giving the space a clean bill of readiness ahead of its debut.
Atieh says the Wicker Park outpost is designed to keep Chicago Pickle fans fed while crews work to restore the Avondale location. Customers can check Chicago Pickle’s website for current hours, pickup options and updates on the Avondale reopening timeline.
