What started as a pre-dawn police pursuit ended in a wrecked vehicle, one arrest, and a full-scale manhunt in Elmhurst early Thursday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m., a vehicle that was being chased by “another agency” crashed at the intersection of York and Lake streets in Elmhurst. One person was taken into custody at the scene, while a second suspect bolted into a nearby wooded area and was last seen near Interstate 290 east of York Street. Officers remained in the area, combing the woods and the surrounding neighborhood for the person who got away.
Elmhurst police said the pursuit began when another law enforcement agency chased a vehicle wanted in connection with a burglary. The crash left one suspect detained and the other fleeing on foot, according to ABC7 Chicago. The initial report did not include the suspects’ names, whether anyone was injured, or details on potential charges.
Search Area And Local Patterns
The stretch of woods that lines I-290 in that part of town is no stranger to late-night and early-morning police activity. Suburban departments have at times turned to GPS tracking tools to bring chases to a safer end; CBS Chicago has reported on one such pursuit in 2024 that involved the use of StarChase darts.
The Daily Herald also detailed a March 2025 case in which a pursuit ended in a crash and multiple arrests near an I-290 ramp, highlighting how often the Eisenhower corridor turns into a backdrop for overnight police work.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities did not immediately release the identities of either suspect or say what charges might be filed, and the investigation remained active, according to ABC7 Chicago. Officers continued to search the wooded area east of York Street while investigators processed the crash site at York and Lake.
