A man was fatally stabbed near Union Station in downtown Los Angeles early Wednesday morning, according to authorities. Officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a stabbing and found the wounded man, who was rushed to a nearby hospital and later died. According to CBS Los Angeles, officers responded around 5:50 a.m. to reports of a stabbing near the 800 block of Alameda Street. The LAPD told the outlet the victim had been stabbed across the street from Union Station, then walked to the station entrance and collapsed in front of the main building. Police said the man was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, and that they had no information about a possible suspect.
Transit hub has seen similar incidents
Union Station and other Metro stops have been the site of multiple stabbings and attacks in recent years, raising ongoing concerns about rider safety. The Los Angeles Times has documented prior incidents in which victims made their way to Union Station to seek help after being injured nearby, while local reporting shows Metro has tested weapons-detection screening at some of its busiest hubs. Last year, Metro signaled plans to expand a weapons-detection pilot after trials at Union Station indicated the systems could detect firearms and knives.
