A quiet stretch of rural Shelby County turned tragic on Thursday when a large tree crashed to the ground near the village of Houston, killing one person, authorities said.
Scene and response
According to FOX8, the tree fell in the 4300 block of Russia‑Versailles Road and struck the victim. The Houston Fire Department and Spirit EMS responded to the scene, and the Shelby County coroner was also called to the site, the outlet reported.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name. Officials said the death remains under investigation by local authorities, and residents were asked to steer clear of the area while crews removed debris and investigators worked the scene.
