Mother Nature just bumped Opening Day on the South Side. The Chicago White Sox have pushed their 2026 home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays from Thursday to Friday because of an ugly weather forecast, sliding the first pitch to 1:10 p.m. Central.
If you already had tickets for Thursday, you are still in the game. Those same seats are good for Friday, no exchange needed.
Team Lays Out New Game Plan
According to whitesox.com, the opener is now set for Friday, April 3, at 1:10 p.m. CT. Parking lots will open at 10 a.m., and the gates at Rate Field are scheduled to open at 11:10 a.m.
The club says every ticket issued for Thursday, including prepaid parking passes, Stadium Club access and patio tickets, will be honored Friday with no exchanges or extra steps required. Fans are also being urged to check the team’s weather information page for the latest updates as the forecast develops.
Chance On The Mound, Familiar Face In Visitor Blue
Local star Chance the Rapper is still on deck to handle the ceremonial first pitch at the rescheduled home opener, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The same report notes that Toronto right-hander Dylan Cease is expected to make his return to Rate Field to face White Sox righty Sean Burke in the opener despite the postponement.
The Saturday and Sunday contests remain set for 1:10 p.m., keeping the rest of the weekend series on track. Still, fans are advised to watch local forecasts, since conditions could yet tinker with timing.
What Fans Need To Know Before First Pitch
The White Sox say the rescheduled opener will air on the Chicago Sports Network, with radio coverage on ESPN Chicago Radio AM-1000/FM-100.3. Weather and schedule updates will be posted at whitesox.com.
With a weekday afternoon start and an entire fan base suddenly circling the same new time, traffic around Rate Field is likely to get snug. Showing up early and leaning on public transit where possible will make it a lot easier to be in your seat when that 1:10 first pitch finally hits the mitt.
