Today turned tense in northern San Diego County after a small vegetation fire broke out near Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Canyon Heights Road, prompting evacuation warnings for two Genasys zones covering parts of Fallbrook and Rainbow. North County Fire crews and San Diego County Sheriff's deputies told residents in the affected zones to be ready to leave while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. As conditions changed, officials placed a nearby area under a full evacuation order and set up roadblocks around the area.
Crews at the scene
According to Alert San Diego, San Diego County Fire reported the blaze at roughly half an acre near Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Canyon Heights Road and said the San Diego County Sheriff's Department issued evacuation warnings and orders for nearby areas. The county added that an evacuation point will be posted on its site once one is established.
Which zones are affected
North County Fire posted on X that evacuation warnings were issued for Genasys zones SDU-0032 and SDC-0034, then a follow-up reply placed zone SDC-0033 under an evacuation order. How to check your status
Residents can enter their address on the interactive Genasys Protect map to see whether their Genasys zone is under an evacuation warning or order, and are encouraged to register for Alert San Diego notifications. Genasys Protect offers live evacuation mapping, and the county site carries details on evacuation points and safety steps.
Local wildfire context
Fallbrook and Bonsall have seen multiple brush fires in recent seasons that led to short-term evacuations and road closures, which makes quick alerts and ready-to-go evacuation plans especially important. For more background on the area's wildfire history and evacuation patterns, see reporting from KPBS.
What residents should do now
If you live in or near the named zones, gather emergency supplies, check the Genasys map and follow instructions from the Sheriff's Office, and do not return to any evacuated area until authorities say it is safe. Officials also asked residents to stay away from the incident area so crews can work and to follow live updates from Alert San Diego and North County Fire channels.
